About Laura Stamer
Laura Stamer
Visual artist Laura Stamer works with photography as a way of questioning space. An investigative observer, Laura’s photographs are often characterised by a subtle and sensuous approach to their subject.
Recent exhibitions include her solo exhibition ‘Reflecting Home’ at SUPEROBJEKT, Copenhagen, the group exhibition SPRING15 at Aarhus Kunsthal and participation in the jury exhibition ‘Nordisk Salong’ (2014) in Helsingborg. Her project 'Reflecting Home' was published in 2015.
“She registers the shadows, corners and the interspaces with a high degree of consistency in the exhibit ‘Reflecting Home’. And in that, she is widely successful in the attempt to communicate a particular corner in the feeling of inhabiting a place.” – Karsten R. S. Ifversen, Politiken (review of Reflecting Home)
Laura is the recipient of several art grants from various foundations including Realdania, The Danish Arts Foundation, L. F. Foght’s Foundation as well as The Dreyer Foundation.
She has served on the board of the Danish Artists’ Autumn Exhibition during 2013 - 2015.
Laura Stamer received her formal education from the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture during which period she also attended the University of Gothenburg School of Photography.
Statement
My artistic work is a process in which I investigate a particular challenge involving the spaces we occupy as well as the spaces that we create around us. I remain analytical and reflecting towards photography in order to investigate the subject before the aesthetics.
My photographs are often meditative and understated, presenting the viewer with an opportunity for interpretation through his or her own experiences and memories. In my photographs I challenge our notion of the photograph as a reproduction of reality. The images call for attention to comprehend the spatial displacement that occurs as an expression of my own personal interpretation and observation.
» Danish photographer Laura Stamer creates a lyrical space through her understanding of architecture and light. With her artistic approach, a personal relation to the object is expressed. Her way of interpreting space and domesticity is quiet, sensitive and questions our understanding of reality. »
